happy new year

Well, Hello There, Old Friend.
I was flipping through the telly channels after school today and when three seconds of the soundtrack from The Fifth Element played, my daughter to came running from some other part of the house, yelling,
“Fifth Element, Fifth Element!!!! I want to watch it please.”
We haven’t seen it several times. Several, several, several times. Nope.
So we sit and watch it again.
I wonder what it is about this film. Does she connect with Leeloo, with her (initial) inability to communicate and fit into her surrounds? Or does she just think Korben Dallas is hot. She laughs hysterically every time Ruby Rhod screams.
Leeloo is The Fifth Element, an The Fifth Element is Love. Maybe that is all it really comes down to.
Anyway, hello, long neglected blog. It is nice to see you again. As the winter holidays draw near, and the days grow short, let us pretend to know each other again. Cheers.
Make note, oh fellow Moms and Dads:
When you buy some of this:
at the discount store because there is no way that you would pay full price for such a thing;
be sure to hide it really well in the fridge if you want to have a taste.
Behind the natural unsweetened yogurt and ancient tub of miso will not be hidden enough.
Placing a large pot of yummy organic strawberry preserves in the front of the fridge in plain sight
will
not
help.
Your children will use their Delicious-Food-Item-that-Mom-is-Hiding Radar and find this:
and consume the entire contents in 4.5 days.
You may get to lick a bit that is stuck to the lid…if you are lucky.
Haiti
eBay is not my idea of fun, but if I can help people in Haiti by using eBay’s charity auctions then, by gum, I will.
My user name on eBay is feyafen.
Here is a direct link to my eBay shop.
I will be running a few auctions for as long as I have items that folks want to buy for charity.
100%, and I mean 100% goes to charity. Either Doctors without Borders, Save the Children or UNICEF.
Blessings.
hello…
Hello?
::taptap::
Is this thing on?

my shining moment of decadent opulence is at hand.
the ups man drove up in his cute little shorts and handed me a blue box.
I scrawled my name on the squishy ups man screen and slinked gleefully back into my house.

dear tree
Hello Tree.

Thank you for blooming so beautifully every May.

Thank you for having loads of lovely bright green leaves.

I also love all the bees that come to visit your sweet-smelling blossoms.

Such sunny blooms.

Ah, tree.
Much love,
fey
….oh look, green yarn. And knitting too!

…and now for something completely different
Food. Sushi.
Nori rolls to be exact.
Simple, satisfying, yum.
(Please pardon the slightly grainy, dark-ish pictures. The lighting in my kitchen is not conducive to photo-taking.)

First, the rice.
I use this method.
Soaking.

Seasoning the rice with vinegar/sugar mixture after cooking.

Rolling one up with cucumber, red bell pepper and green onions.
Some with garlic ginger shrimp.

Three ready to eat!

Yum!
